Questions and answers

1. What does TotalTV measure about the online use of panel households?

FocalMeter, a measuring device installed in panel households, identifies the viewing devices (computers, tablets, smartphones, smart TVs and media players) connected to the household’s network and the Yle Areena, mtv-palvelu and Ruutu content viewed on them.

TV companies need comparable data on TV and online TV viewing to develop their businesses and monitor trends, and they aim to track the consumption of TV content on different devices in a comprehensive and comparable way.

The research can even provide information about specific programmes and the full spectrum of online viewing figures (including average viewer figures, service level information, reach, profiles, overall reach). We aim to provide media agencies with access to data via a planning tool.
